14 januari: start van het Pongal festival – Happy Pongal, dear family!

Het jaarlijkse Pongal feest duurt 4 dagen. De bevolking van de provincie Tamil Nadu bedankt de zon, lucht, water, aarde en vee voor een goede oogst en bidt voor voorspoed.

The annual Pongal festival takes place during 4 days. The people of the Tamil Nadu province thank the sun, the air, the water, the earth en the cattle for a good harvest en they pray for prosperity.

Bovenstaande kunstwerken zijn gemaakt door Kavitha en de dames van het personeel van Saranalaya. Alle gevels van de huizen worden versierd.

Er werd bloem van de rijst gemaakt. De vogels, insecten en mieren voeden zich daarmee.

These works of art are made by Kavitha en the othe female staff members of Saranalaya. The front sides of all the houses are decorated.

They have made flour out of rice. The birds, insects and ants eat that.
